Securing a hostel exchange only takes four steps. You don’t need any specific skills, experience or qualifications. Here's my breakdown:

1. Where to Find the Best Hostel Volunteer Exchanges?

Head to the Notice Board. It has all the exchanges I’ve found and curated over seven years 🤓. I organised them by continent, and then by country. If you know where you want to go… start there. There's over 200+ exchanges listed—there’s bound to be one for you! 🎉

2. How to Select the Right Hostel Exchange (Check the Requirements)

You can choose an exchange based on where you want to travel. Or the work experience you want out of it. Or completely based on the perks.

All are valid.

One thing I highly recommend is reading the requirements carefully. Make sure you’re happy with the duration, the hours, the tasks, the stay, and the general vibe before applying ✅.

3. How to Apply and What to Include in Your Application Message?

There's a contact method for each exchange listed 📳. Some have up to four (Instagram, WhatsApp, Email and my Exchange Platform). These are the hostel's preferred communication methods. They're the best way to apply. Send them a message using any of these (if you don't receive a response within 2 days, try another) ✍️.

I recommend including these in your message:

• 🧑‍🎨 Your relevant experience volunteering

• 📅 Your preferred dates and duration

4. Finalising Your Exchange (Interview, Start Dates, and Agreements)

When you receive a response 💬, you might be asked to jump on a call to discuss the exchange. Majority of the time it’s done via messaging. This is your chance to ask questions and negotiate before committing. When you’re happy with the exchange, agree on the start date, and that's your first exchange in the bag! 🥳
